Panic. I installed the firmware, the little bar was moving across the screen, and then halfway across -- the computer shut down. Now my screen is dead, I can't tell if the hard drive is functioning, my restore CD is 20 miles away, and I'm scared witless. WTF?!?!?!
Suggestions?
You have to burn the firmware CD with another mac computer (perhaps apple store guy can help). Then, you can boot from this CD, and the update of firmware will continue. GOOD LUCK.

Awesome! Are you going to OC it?
But of course! Should be able bump up the turbo multiplyer to hit 4.4 on stock air from what I've read, and let it scale back to stock clocks when idle, if it's ever idle haha. We'll see how that performs (and what the noise level is on stock air) and go from there. Everything I've read says the stock cooler for the 2600k is overbuilt by intel purposefully to allow for overclocking.
It's uses will be: Encoding blu ray and dvd rips, and rapid re-compressing of video for my phone (all of this should be 10x faster than it is on my current MBP C2D). Playing games; hello Civ V maxed out and Portal 2, BF3, FSX, etc (and Minecraft at a billion fps). And of course folding with the rest of the spare clock ticks.

I'm sure Comcast would love me to upload my 300+Gb of Apple Lossless music! Seriously, I think that
1. If you have ripped music already available in iTunes, your version will not get uploaded, but you will be able to access those songs
2. Anything you upload will be uploaded in a smaller, compressed format....it won't be streamed as a lossless file
3. Before we accept or reject this, let's see what apple has in mind
4. Do not use this as your only backup! If you have lossless files, don't expect to get them back at way from apple. Back up, back up, back up!

How do you monetize Revenge?
With iAdd. This would be the whole point : winning the search engine market to get the internet advertizing market out off Google.
Which brings me to this fourth clue :
4) It makes sense if Apple will turn iAdd into a success.

She should have just let the guy drive away.
I guess she wanted the last word, really, really bad.
I can see a windshield wiper company hiring this woman to do a commercial promoting their blade durability. Whether it's money or dirt, either way she'll be rolling in it :)
Most vehicles have a windshield well, as part of the hood, which provides a nice handle to grab on to.

I just came across this app the other day...I really really hope AT&T promotes/advertises this app...at least to make the APPEARANCE that AT&T cares about it's network's weakness(es).
As of last night, only about 1150 people reviewed it...pretty lame considering the millions of iPhone users and it's been available for almost a month. Every iPhone owner should have this app.

Well, I suppose this highlights the issue of recycling electronics.....
By the way, does anybody else think a square container for a spinning blender blade is just poor design? :p

Though you can't tell much from a single screenshot, it looks like the iCal update is more a cosmetic update rather than a feature update. The only new feature I can see in that screenshot is something about new event notifications, but that's hardly what people have been clamoring for.
Actually, if they would fix the bugs in iCal I'd be happy :D
I would expect tighter intregration for the new iCal server, and other backend stuffs, maybe some professionalizing of the interface.

I am loving the added competition in the video streaming space.
Makes people like Comcast and TimeWarner squirm. The Post-TV days are here, just like the Post-CD, Post-Newspaper and Post-Magazine before. All we needed was mature encoding, and enough bandwidth.
Apple needs to do this to continue growing as a media distribution king; they're tiny in all areas except music right now.
The consumer will win, not from Apple's "rock bottom" pro-sumer pricing ;), but because the competition will drive costs down and bring more content into the mix.

Runs smoothly at low settings on my iMac that barely meets the minimum specs, so I am very happy about that.
Played some Co Op with a PC-owning friend and had a real blast - such a fun and funny game.
And it is so exciting to see a same day release of a major game for both PC and Mac. Nice one Valve!
P.S. Comparing Portal 1 and 2 isn't really fair. Portal 2 is so much bigger and better than it's predecessor that comparing the two is like a trailer to a full movie.

 I dont understand why people keep insisting on virtually outdated technolgies.
The new standard is Blu Ray. Get with the program :)
I think Blu Ray is going to flop.
and to the other guy, I think it's perfectly legitimate to announce a new MBP enclosure with a DL superdrive at the WWDC. I mean it's the pro model laptop. Developers would definitely be using it. And they can burn things faster! :D

Freedom's only requirement should be that you obey the law. Within those confines, a person should have the right to express themselves as they please.

What about the mid 2009 white MacBooks?
That was the last non-LED white MacBook. Is there a firmware update for that to unlock support for 8 GB RAM?
I think none the white (plastic) macbook ever supports 8GB of RAM... Sorry for you, but I think 4GB is more than enough for everyday use... Unless you're a professional photographer or videographer that uses big big softwares :D

so if you computer crashes you left with nothing.. again why they should discount this.
Right-click on the game in your Steam library and select "Backup", then burn your backup on either CDs or DVDs. Problem solved.
If you don't like it, then just buy a retail box.
The only thing that I do not like about Steam (or ANY of those digital content stores) is that you cannot sell the game once you no longer want or need it and transfer it to the account of somebody else. You can only do this when you purchase an item as a gift. This actually deprives me of a legal right that I have as a customer in Germany - we CAN legally transfer even OEM licenses that were bundled with some hardware.

"We didn't enter the search business, they entered the phone business."
Steve Jobs whines people step on his turf, but is too thick to see the irony when the shoe is on the other foot. Mapping the entire world is complicated and best done by Google because they can effectively monetize it. For an effective traffic app, you need high volume. Android's cheap crap does this better because it has more marketshare. Apple needs to quit being bitches and put the Google navigation app on iPhone and both phones for a superior traffic app.
The last thing I want is the need to constantly connect to the internet and download the maps every time when I want to get some navigation. The Google maps solution is not ideal if they still don't allow caching maps or local navigation database.

All that hardware is great, but to that doesn't mean you can edit a piece quicker than you would with the current software on an older computer.
That was exactly my point. The newer software will actually take advantage of my computer whereas the older software is a bottle neck. You might've misunderstood my statement.
"12 gigs of RAM + 8 cores + GPU optimization > 4 gigs of RAM + 1.5 cores."
This is the SAME computer. One side is what Final Cut Pro X can take advantage of, the other side is what the current Final Cut Pro can take advantage of. If I don't have to sit and render audio and timelines every time I make an edit on some projects, you better believe that helps me edit faster.
And yes, I get that this doesn't make me "better" at editing. But if I get projects completed and to my clients faster, they'll sure as hell think I'm "better."
:-P

Just a thought, not sure of the url.
http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.net/sep_2006/event/
Is this a typical url for apple.
edgesuite.net huuuuUUMM?
Yes, that's totally normal for Apple. They had a decent-sized investment in that company (Akamai) at one time.
