I saw a follow-up report on this (on CNN I believe). What the original report doesn't tell you is that the person doing the tracking requires some sort of device ID or code from the iPod before implementing the tracking process. The author of the report mentioned that you can only get this by opening up the iPod. If this is correct, it doesn't seem that people can track you without having physical access to your iPod first.
On a positive note, this might be a good way to track your kids on family outings.

It's funny, but wherever I go, I always see people with iPhones. My train, on plane trips between Chicago and NYC, during meetings, etc. I am amazed the number is only 5% - but I guess it's the circles that I am in.

Just weight an MBA 13, and figure out why it weighs more and costs more.
And if you shrunk the bezel while still using a standard sized display (same cost), the keyboard would stick out the sides, which would look pretty whacky.
I was pretty clear that I wanted a bezel shrink to accommodate a larger screen not to have a smaller laptop.

Haha, darn, I thought I might be the first one to mention that. And Lion's gate "tipping off" about the itunes movie downloads... does that mean the basketball game has begun? :) I think for "tips off" to be used correctly, it needs an object noun. For instance, Lion's Gate tips off the media. The diction used here kind of confused me.

I am considering which version to buy. Is it better to run under Mac OS or Windows 7 via Bootcamp? My computer is MBP 2010 17".
No need to consider. Buy it on Mac, and you get it on Windows too. Buy it on Windows, get the Mac version too. All you need is the Steam app installed in each OS, from www.steampowered.com. The best part is that your save games auto sync between the two sides, using the built in SteamCloud service. You can flip back and forth all you want.

For the past week, the education-only iMac had been available to both qualified education individuals and institutions. There has been no official explanation from Apple on the quick change.
Obviously because allowing students and teachers to purchase the machine would just anger regular consumers and increase the calls for the machine to be available as a regular item to everyone. :rolleyes:

Oh that is soooo going to P.O. my girlfriend. She's an elementary teacher and I just finished convincing her to buy one of those when they became available in Canada. :eek:

If they run this out of the new datacenter, expect it to be a pile of crap. You need multiple datacenters all over the globe else everyone will suffer poor speeds...much like Apples largest audience (the international market) do with the current crappy iDisk.

I hate to say it, but this looks like a nightmare for any high volume production house, ie. news studios. Changing the entire workflow for these kinds of teams and departments across the board is a NIGHTMARE.
You're asking the studios that have been transported into Final Cut work flows (bbc/ctv for example), to learn an entirely new interface. The adoption rate for this enormous switch to basically what looks like iMovie 2011 is going to be pitiful within the first few years.
There will need to be some serious mountain moving for this to be usable for editors that rely on being able to and NEEDING to see multiple video tracks 100% of the time.
They need to show a demo for serious power users that don't care about millions of thumbnails, scrubbing through clips with a mouse (where the hell is the preview window for gods sake), facial recognition and fun quirks like automatically figuring out the depth of field for a shot.
Lets see what it looks like as a multiple monitor system. How does it integrate with Final Cut Studio? How do multiple projects simultaneously look and work together? These are questions that editors that don't rely on putting projects together on a MacBook are waiting for.
Also, automagic color correction with a touch of a button? Color correction for HD-SMPTE better have had something to do with this.
Audio with multiple sample rates not needing rendering? This I have to see.
Zero render times with multiple codecs? Unicorns. Also Avid's had this beast tackled for years. (no, I'm not an avid fan boy)
This list goes on.

If any thing, Apple will probably completely unveil all of Leopard's features in January at Macworld. Right before consumers get their hands on Vista. Then, start taking pre-orders a week or two later, and shipping within a month. I feel safe saying that's a realistic prediction. :)

I just spoke with Apple Support because I was worried that an order place today (with the 3-4 week lead-time) would ship before my order which I placed last week when the lead-time was 4 - 5 weeks.
I was told that I shouldn't cancel my order placed last week because it will ship before orders placed after it.

I was AMAZED to see a video on my iPad off CNN of people in the affected areas of Japan calmly walking through a food store with 90% empty shelves. Calmly, quietly picking up one or two things here or there placing them in the cart and moving on. An interview of a shopper through interpreter announced "This is the only store with any stock...." and yet it was a peaceful as can be. :)
