Australia has affordable quality healthcare. Well, probably like the British healthcare. Is that quality?

Whether or not the UK has quality healthcare is up for debate. But what it does have is low cost and access.

In my personal experience, and according to WHO rankings, France has the best healthcare in the world.

Japan is ranked #10 according to the world health organization.

The US is ranked #37  Most of that has to do with poor access. The wealthy get the best care, arguably in the world. Sucks for the bottom 95% though.

    I'm hardly an Apple-hater
That, combined with Apple apparently no longer giving a crap about the Mac (classic Pirates of Silicon Vally manoeuvre - putting the iOS team up against the Mac team) have screwed everyone over.

Remember, Apple is supposed to be a company that makes computers (as in desktop/laptop). However it now seems they are a Mobile Devices company, with a side-project (the Mac). This is Steve's doing.
    Mac.

I think, when you look at your stance on mac, you are very right. Apple has indeed lost a bit of focus on the macs, to my opinion. especially when you look at adopting innovations there, they're lagging behind.

I wish somebody would take a photo of the dock connector and the headphone jack to see if those are white as well (they should be).

If it's anything like Apple's other white products, every part will have a different shade of white after a while.

    Definitely Will Happen:
•Mail and iCal updated to resemble Mobile Me
•Interface updated to resemble Mobile Me (more helvetica, less gloss)

    Would Be Nice:
•Major focus on graphics performance. Perhaps of a way for an 3D App (i.e a game) to monopolize the CPU and GPU, like in Windows.
•Dropstack and tabs in Finder, to obviate the need for Path Finder (for me)
    • New File System, whatever they started to work on after the ZFS licensing fell through.
    • Bring back the normal audio/video controls in the Finder
    • Tags
    • iChat removed from the OS. New Mac and Windows versions with FaceTime, available immediately.
    • Faster way to switch to Bootcamp in the Apple Menu (this was a feature in a beta, and they took it out.)
    • Better-looking folder icons with COLOR that stand out.
    • Resolution independence
    • Quicktime X with 7's features; Quicktime 7 gone

    Not Counting On It:
    • Editable Apple Menu, like in days of old
    • Copy and Paste in Finder
    • A better looking, flatter bottom dock without the stupid reflections (I have mine set to the 2D version now)
    • Blu-ray support

I see the point, but there's a bit of a difference between something not being to your taste and telling the people who run the sites that they're geeks who don't know what constitutes a newsworthy site. :)

If I did complain I'd do it in a way that was at least civil, hehe.

Well, I hope the person who said that appreciates the irony in their statement. I dont know how ANYONE on MR isnt a GEEK. I wear that with total pride:) Stay well dude

Ok, see that is where I was going with posting this article. I was wondering if it were even possible to hold on to a windshield wiper blade for that length of time? I mean, wouldn't pressure or force or something cause the blade to snap? They just don't seem that strong.

I can see a windshield wiper company hiring this woman to do a commercial promoting their blade durability. Whether it's money or dirt, either way she'll be rolling in it :)

Whilst you're right that many of us would struggle picking out our favourite beer brands from a line up it would be easy to spot the one that doesn't actually taste of beer at all, namely Budweiser.

Very true. I was over a friends house the other day. We get together regularly for beer tasting, always having some micro offering to try. One day he slipped me a Bud Light. Damned near threw up.
But let people drink what they want. I really don't care to get into some petty argument about what they "should be drinking". My little beer secret: When I am cutting the lawn and it's real hot, I actually like a High Life on occasion. Diss me for THAT and you'll see a bottle upside you're pretentious head.
    :)

ive lost all respect for Jobs and Apple. i've reproduced this on every single display iphone in two apple stores in separate states how are those facts wrong?

Wow. Ever care to think that maybe the media has picked up on a wrong technical fact? Not to mention it was never mentioned what facts were wrong.

Do you people just live to work yourselves up without applying any critical thinking?

Jobs may be skinny, but he is also getting older... there's nothing out of the ordinary here. Sure he may be a God to some of us (myself included :p), but he is a normal person like you and me. He sounded better at this presentation than he did at the Mac mini and iPod Hi-Fi introductions. He's actually been skinnier for a while now, so I am sure everything is fine. If anything, I think his performance has been improving throughout the year. I'm confident in his health. :)

As for the other speakers... I have to agree about Phil. He seems like a great guy, but his speaking skills are no where near as great as Steve's. Who was the other guy besides Bertron (sp?)? I really liked his presentations. He kept me interested, especially during Time Machine.

that would be scott forstall, vp of platform experience

Sounds good to me ... would be nice to get some real croud based traffic alerts based on realtime data. If I currently look in google maps at the traffic overlay and see all is 'green' and take that highway I often still get stuck in traffic because the data is outdated. When I am on the road shortly before rush hour starts this information is critical for me so that I can decide which way to take (can save me lots of time). Even the travel alerts on the radio are usually behind.

If any thing, Apple will probably completely unveil all of Leopard's features in January at Macworld. Right before consumers get their hands on Vista. Then, start taking pre-orders a week or two later, and shipping within a month. I feel safe saying that's a realistic prediction. :)

    Oh oh, body piercing...

    <hold hands over eyes>

Quick, think of .... accounting <no! tax cuts>... anything else... washing dishes <No! Knives>... Bowling <NO! Pins>.... ok, my LP collection <Aargh! turntable has a needle>

    Ulp!

    <covers mouth, runs broken-field pattern toward bathroom>
Not the first time when this topic has come up in other threads - my sympathies, piercing seems to be one of those issues that folks can really squick out on...

Now, neildmitchell - getting any work done at Zebra is brave. I tend to think of that store as a hole in the wall compared to Body Manipulations or Black & Blue Tattoo in SF. Last time I was in there, I observed their tattoo guy smoking a cigarette and working on someone - great for the 1940s, but not so cool in 2005.

I do wash it immediately before bed, and when I wake.
They said wash 2-3 times a day, when washing ...Soap Rinse Soap Rinse Soap Rinse (three times the charm I guess, I also use a bit of it on my whole face just as an extra precaution but just one soap rise)...

Any word on how the MacBook Air run its?

I'm not imaging maxed out settings, but the GPU in here is on the stronger side(compared to what Intel offers), so I'm hoping.

Might just grab it for the X360 instead

I'm playing on a 2010 MBA 13" Ultimate and I noticed that the audio track stutters in a couple of places. Had to turn the subtitles on. I have not yet tweaked the settings to run at a lower resolution.

Fan speeds are running around 4500 RPM during gameplay. Louder than normal, but not screaming.

    Can i just mention something??

I'm a musician and am very well acquainted with notation software such as sibelius 4 and Finale. What on earth would be the point in having a piano keyboard interface?? The range can't really be more than an octave, which is rather useless when writing... And even then, just to use it as an imput method would be so much slower then just typing the names of notes. Now one can press the letter 'a' and an A (the note) will be displayed. When using such software, it's not the note imput that takes the time, it's the changing of note values, and adding instructions and markings to the score. for this, the piano keyboard would be useless. What, so every time you want to write a new italian tempo marking, you have to switch to a keyboard?? sucks.

Oh, and some people may say that it could midi record and notate what you play... but this rarely works well and even then you're stuck with the range of probs just over an octave.

    Thoughts welcome.

    USB piano tie?

Is it really that tough for you to understand? Apple sells two phones. Those are the two most popular phones sold.

The other manufacturers ALL sell many, many models of phones. The total sales of those many phones combined equal to a number that is bigger than Apple's total sales.

I guess it is best to let it go. Too many people unwilling to compare like things (like IPhone 4 vs Nexus S or Galaxy xyz). They want to do perform some comparison of dissimilar objects because they desperately want the iPhone to be losing at something.

They throw out Android as an App platform even though they still sell container loads of phones on 1.6 that will never be upgraded to a compatible OS. They will redefine winning because they hate Apple.

It is weird, kind of creepy and getting old.

What bothers me about this is that we now seem to have a huge number of professors and other self promoting (people) running around scaring people for what appears to be a number of odd reasons. This is about as real of a concern as the people making all the noise about global warming. Sure there are issues here, but it really looks like the efforts of people associated with theses scares are more about self promotion and self enrichment than anything else.

Not a nice thing to say, but when you understand that some of the people involved in the global warming debate where a few years ago involved in the coming ice age debate you have to wonder about sincerity. I mean really what is the big deal here that a public announcement was need. Was it an issue of radio frequencies being trackable, something we have all known about for years, or the fact that the transmission was coded for identification?

The point is if you have anything on you body that transmits radio energy you can be tracked. No surprise there. I'm also suspicious about their software, the unwillingness to publish said software may indicate that this is a elaborate dog and pony show.

In the end I just think it is sad that people in the higher education systems of this country have nothing better to do than to scare people. You would think with all the long term economic issues we have they could find a little time to develop technologies that will push the economy forward. Instead energy is focused on items that go down the drain in a few months time.

You think a 40GB drive can hold OS X, iLife, a couple of additional apps, and large sized iTunes and iPhoto libraries? You must have forgotten to include the "just kidding" smilie.

Let's do some quick math. A small iPhoto library like mine is 2000 photos. I have a 5 megapixel camera, half the images have red eye removed or some other change (iPhoto keeps the originals and the edited copies) so I have roughly 3000 files averaging 1.8MB each or 5.4GB. That's a small iPhoto library. You also want to hold a large iTunes library which implies a 30 or 60GB iPod owner.

So without going any further we need about 10GB for OS X and all the bundled apps, another 10GB for a fairly small iPhoto library, 15GB to half fill an iPod and 25GB to hold two hours of footage from your digital video camera. For all practical purposes, remembering that hard drives don't run well without a bunch of free space for editing, virtual memory, etc., we've just filled an 80GB hard drive (formatted capacity 74GB).

So I've just proved that the Mac mini is fatally flawed for many users because it's physically too small to hold a standard 3.5" HD. If it had been even one inch bigger it could have not only held more, it would have been less expensive to manufacture.

I was surprised when they announced the edu iMac at only $899 and so the announcement that it's now restricted to institutional purchase makes sense. Regarding the specs I figure Apple must have gotten a really great deal on 80GB HDs because in the retail market there's only a $10-20 difference between 80GB and 160GB. Heck there's only a $35 difference between 80GB and 250GB.

alep85 said that 80% of the consumer market doesn't need anything more than integrated graphics. Obviously those people are over the age of 30 and don't have children. You don't use the internal drive anyway. You build a 400GB FW drive with a $100 400GB ATA Drive and a $40 FW Case. That's your boot drive on these Minis not what comes inside them. Mini sits right on top of the FW Drive. Not a space problem. Runs way faster that way as well. I would never buy-use a mini without booting off a big external drive like this.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E200 Safari/6533.18.5)

Love my Android... Sorry Apple, but I can't afford the iPhone.

This doesn't make sense. Phone plans cost the same on a carrier for iPhone and android; therefore the only difference could be the cost of the phone.
In which case, if you are willing to buy an out of date android phone to get it for less, why not consider a year old iPhone which usually sells for half to three quarters off.
I believe most android phones at release are priced around $200 same as the iPhone.

My number one concern. I need a pda with my phone, and if Apple's not doing it, I'm stuck.
Wouldnt it be great if apple iphone had features of a phone, pda, and ipod and if it can be used as a modem for a laptop to access the internet?
