If executed right (and Apple usually does that), they may have gotten the holy grail in computer/portable device here. While I can see shortcomings like mentioned here (how to type in tracknames when the keyboard is replaced by a mixer), I think it would be great for musicians on the road. Mix together your projects with the mixer, swap the mixer interface with your ordinary keyboard, and edit tracknames. swap it again with the music keyboard to add a few additional tracks etc etc. While in no way better than dedicated hardware, it may just get the job done on the road.

I'd like to see these ideas worked out, and possibly some of them executed.
How about a re-release of the Newton, handwriting recognition of the next level on a widescreen or next gen video iPod?

Next time someone accuses you of something, ask what evidence they have to support the claim. If there is none, just ignore them and continue what you were doing. Then later if this IT person persists just ask if he likes his current job or would like to find one somewhere else. That should do the trick.

When you buy one at these stores, how do they activate it or know if your up for an upgrade?

Best Buy sells all of the big name phones for all major carriers, and they have a dedicated section of the store for mobile phone purchases, so they can easily activate your phone or look up your existing contract. I've had several phones activated at Best Buy and not once have I had a problem.

I'm becoming sure that however many Macs Apple sells, that market share figure will never climb above the magic 5% limit.

Does saying that make me one of those Mac Zealots I keep hearing about?

    No, I kind of agree.

I think the increase in sales is because of the new MacBook... it is just right for everybody!

If Nokia has had these patents for 10 years before the iPhone, then why didn't they act when the iPhone was first released?

I would ask the same question. However, that's not how patent law works in the USA. Nokia doesn't have to spend their time/money watching other people's products, tearing them apart, and looking for patent infringement. All Nokia needs to do is SOME DAY realize their patent was infringed and then file a lawsuit. That's it.

But I am sure that Nokia knew a very long time ago that Apple was infringing and did nothing (which is perfectly their right)...and let Apple make billions...then file a lawsuit to cash in. Think about it...why would Nokia file suit immediately to earn, say, a pesky $5 or $20 million (and give Apple a chance to make the product better) when Nokia can wait years and earn hundreds of millions or billions? It's the waiting game that ALL patent holders play.

I feel that the existing law is fine. It's not Nokia's job to watch for patent stealers. There are thousands of "little guys" out there that file patents and truly do not realize till years down the road that their patent was infringed. The law cannot discriminate.

iTunes has been not part of iLife for some time, but "never say never." It was indeed one of the original iLife apps in the first several iterations and included up through iLife '05.

    http://www.amazon.com/Apple-M9779LL-A-iLife-Mac/dp/B0007GCZ46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286281717&sr=8-1

I stand corrected, it hasnt been a part of iLife since 05.

No, they want you to purchase Logic instead.

And it's far easier to drop HDs so your $1200 sw is DOA. It always depends on how you take care of your stuff. I have thousands of CDs/DVDs, and none of them is scratched; obviously I do not throw them around my desk either.

Of course, it always depend on how you take care of your stuff. By using your own words, the hard drive will last as long as the DVDs.

DVDs arent going to be the standard for 15 years as long as the packages are exploding in size every year, the move to blu-ray will help greatly of course but not until the market adopts it. People said the same thing about tapes 15 years ago and now most data centers are already moving toward hard drives instead of tapes. Eventually itll be cheaper to sell the package on the HDD than DVDs.

Theres no point to dragging this on, i didnt say that hard drives will be the standard, itll be offered as an alternative to the massive dvd sets.

Sheesh, that independent study is all you have to back up yourself.

So, you would like me to ignore FACTS, is that it? I should just pretend that the study does not exists?

You are claiming that Wikipedia is not accurate. I'm saying that according to independent study carried out by the Nature-magazine, Wikipedia IS accurate. You are disputing that claim. In that case I think that you need to go talk to Nature and tell them that they have no idea what they are talking about.

on the A380 article, the height was changed from 78ft 6in to 78ft 3in!

Oh the humanity! So which of those figures is the right one? If it's the latter, are you then complaining becuase they find errors and fix them?

Thank $DEITY Britannica has no errors in it! No sirree! Nevermind the fact that it DOES contain errors as well (in Natures comparison, they found 8 "major errors". 4 of those errors were in Wikipedia, 4 were in Britannica.

And there are plenty more. I read one about "Larry King's farting habit" that stayed up for a month.

Exception to the rule. That is what Nature said about those kind of entires in Wikipedia after their study. You do know that there are over a million articles in Wikipedia, and you are whining becuase you found one that has some weird comments in it? And if it stayed up for a month, why didn't you fix it? I have actually fixed two articles in Wikipedia (I don't remember the other, but the second was some grammar-fixes in English article about Finnish mythology.). Took me about 5 minutes in total.

And maybe he does have a farting-habit ;)?

Yes, many articles in Wikipedia a accurate, but minor things can be changed without notice.

Well, there is the history-function that provides information to what was change, when was it changed and who changed it. So it's not like the changes simply appear without anyone noticing. Each article has a detailed history that shows EXACTLY what has been changed.

And when I said the thing about the bums, I meant that I'd rather read what a person with a PhD in Botany has to say about the Brasilian Verbena over a Wikipaedist that just has googled the subject a few times.

What makes you think that the article in Wikipedia was not written by someone who has a PhD in Botany? "oh no, they are just bums who use Google!". Generalize much?

So, what do you have do say? Maybe quote that study few times again for me, please.

Oh, I dunno. Maybe YOU could just say "but anyone can edit it! They are just bums!" few more times? Nevermind that it's utterly pointless and dumb, but that's the only thing you seem to have to say.

    "but.... anyone can edit it!"

You know what companies do when they're having trouble in Japan? They all take a pay cut- even the CEOs. They work TOGETHER as a team. Amazing what that can do for a society.

I read a story about the CEO of Japan Airline (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/01/28/eveningnews/main4761136.shtml). He's got my vote as the Best Boss EVER!

    i7 920 is 2.66 ghz stock but I have it OC'd to 3.8 ghz.

oh ok nice. yeah you could try to push it to 4.0 ghz. it's always nice to start with a 4 :)

i was waiting for a os x gpu client before i did it. seems much more efficient than cpu folding

well from what i've read, that just isn't the case. GPUs use much more power than CPUs. the most efficient for the points is CPU folding (bigadv). the only advantage GPU folding has is that certain work units are only GPU, so if you are looking to work towards a certain disease, this might mean something to you

The market cap of Netflix is 12 billion, add another 3 to 5 billion for a buyers premium, and it would take a pretty large chunk of the Apple cash reserves.

I think you are right. Buying Netflix would be like paying $1200 per subscriber (isn't this astonishing? Imagine Apple would paying you $10 a month for ten years for watching movies). Better to invest less than 15 billion dollars and try to build something own. Also Apple is extremely conservative and cautious in buying other companies. They only buy relatively small firms every few years.

I know they have free music and tv downloads. I think it would be cool to have a free movie download of maybe indie films or film classics because other than the free tv downloads I rarely buy any shows on iTunes since I don't have a video iPod.

And in the same vein as other posts I see this launching with an iPod update. My guess early November.

Australia has cheap good food too. How much is a kilo of fresh tomatoes in Norway? It's approx $3-5 here. Which is approx 16-28 Norwegian Kroner, or 2-3.5 .
It costs about the same in Norway as in Australia, but the wage level is higher in Norway than in most other countries.

Sounds good to me ... would be nice to get some real croud based traffic alerts based on realtime data. If I currently look in google maps at the traffic overlay and see all is 'green' and take that highway I often still get stuck in traffic because the data is outdated. When I am on the road shortly before rush hour starts this information is critical for me so that I can decide which way to take (can save me lots of time). Even the travel alerts on the radio are usually behind.

$150 USD is too much? Looking at the toys in red I would figure $150 would be a drop in the bucket. just saying

The cameras are my job, so not exactly toys for pleasure - and the Macs go along with it.

I could spend the 130 on Kinect, and it wouldn't exactly hurt my wallet, but my issue is more a value one. For that 130 I get a sensor and access to a bunch of crap games, along with promises that things will get better. Until there's actually quality titles available, it remains an overpriced, overhyped accessory that costs as much as a console.

...wait, Kinect costs the same as a 4GB 360. That's ludicrous. Move is also pricey, but has the slight advantage of being a scalable system. Same issue with games though right now.

    What and where is RADAR?

Radar is Apple's internal bug tracking system (has been since 1991, iirc).

The known issues list there is pretty harsh... sounds like lots of half done changes to me :)
