    Nokia annual report and accounts;

    Legal Expenses Budget 250 M.

R&D Budget 1 M - sorry R&D guys, spent all the money on lawyers.

I know you are joking, but Nokia's R&D budget is actually extremely high, much higher than Apple's. The problem is that somehow they manage to get nothing back for their huge investment.

    Let me tell you...

I currently have an iPod 5.5, (because I had it replaced and they gave me the newer one) playing videos isn't as great as it sounds. I can only get about 1:45 minutes of video playing time. I use my iPod while riding the train to work everyday, and I can only view half of a two hour movie, because I don't want my battery to die before I get to work.

I think this is the main concern of Apple delaying the launch of this new iPod Video. They need to have figured out a way for the battery life to last at least 4 to 6 hours...:(

Either you really have a 5G iPod or you have a crap battery they should last around 4-6 hours.

Yeah, I guess you do gotta "put up with that" unless you plan on killing the woman

Sorry, I don't play the "human shield" game. She's as responsible as he is for what happened.

The dude has issues, and took off with his wife clinging to the hood of his car. If she tried to roll off she may could have been killed! But hey, let's go ahead and blame the victime here.

I don't doubt that he has issues, and I don't doubt that she could have been killed - but if she had stayed the **** off his car, she'd never have been in harm's way to begin with.

First rule of diffusing a hostile situation - if one party is willing to walk away, you let them. Going after them and jumping up on the hood of the car as they're trying to leave makes about as much sense as stepping in front of a train to get it to stop.

No way I vote to convict this guy if I'm on his jury.

Who gives a damn if Magnesium burns? Some prestigeous car cockpits are made of brushed magnesium and they look gorgeous. Pretty much everything burns when powedered. And pure metals are very unelikely to be used, alloys are much better suited for any metal cases as they are even more durable. And if your current iPod did not yet spontaniously catch fire, an iPod in a magnesium case would not have either. Do you really hold your iPod over a bunsen burner on a regular basis? I would understand if they planned to make them out of Sodium. :D

I can't wait for Apple to replace the crappy plastic case by metal ones. Portable devices such as mp3-players, laptops, phones etc. should not be made of cheap scratchy plastic in my opinion. It's frustrating how my shuffle scratched within a few days of usage. But it's actually cool the shuffle has no display, I can trow it around without fearing to break anything.

If not metal, make the iPods like the black Macbooks. I torture mine and don't have a single scratch. Actually, there was one at the bottom once but I can't find it anymore. It's cursed I think...

I fly from Denver to Dallas nearly every week and I have seen 1000s of iPads in the wild...it sounds like you hang out with some very clumsy people, maybe they are afraid to buy iPads.

I fly around Europe mostly and to North America maybe 12 times / year. iPad usage suffers from a clear European/North America divide. Most Europeans (Germans/Swedes) I know still haven't found a use for one.

Also, iPhone ownership is much lower over here because the cost/min is much higher. The last data I saw (ComputerBild.de) showed that Germans pay 0.11/min for talk but only consume on average 20/mo. Americans paid 0.03/min and consume roughly 45/mo on average.

The was for all phones combined, not just iPhones/smartphones.

Basically, the cost is still way too high per min over here to justify the cost.

The lack of iPad usage comes down to it being an extreme luxury item ... average full time "salary" in Germany is 45k pre-tax and 25k post-tax (2k/month), so 25% of a months salary for a non-specific usage device that can't really be subsidized by the employer is a non-starter.

How much closer does that 30% get us to PPC apps running on a C2D as fast as a G5?

Macworlds photoshop test put a 2.16 Ghz iMac Core 2 as equal to a 2Ghz iMac G5, which is pretty impressive.

I think this news shouldn't surprise anyone. What I'm more interested in is finding out what the specifics are. How big are the files? How are the encoded? What is Apple's delivery method? What are expected transfer times? What is the resolution? What is the aspect ratio? What will the price per movie be? Is it just the movie, or DVD extras as well? These, to me, are the important questions, not when the service itself will launch....

Sadly, I'd bet the answer to most of those (except for price) will be "same as it is already".

I'll be there. I bought a user conference pass, so I can see the keynote (whether I'll actually be able to get in is another question).

What do you mean, is it normally crowded for the Keynote? Should I get there super duper early to make sure I get a seat? I am flying 3,000 miles to see this lol.

Who said this was a dumbed down edit suite and no longer for pros?
This looks AMAZING and solves dozens of the gripes that I deal with on a day to day basis.
Thank god that Apple aren't scared of naysayers and traditionalists like user 'Full of Win'!!!

I know! I'm watching this and I can't imagine anyone would think this is iMovie Pro after watching both clips. Sample level accurate audio, rather than frame accurate, that's the devil in the detail stuff that people are missing and no iMovie user would ever care about. ^_^

I LOVE that pitch driven audio frame scrubbing. Beyond useful.

And I'd like to reiterate something he says in the demo

"Don't worry everything I'm doing can be driven from the keyboard."

You don't KNOW these things, you assume them.
They make 2-3 times as much money as when they only made computers, I don't see the problem.

My point stands. Steve should resign. He's done.

To whoever said to me 'you want this guy to the thing that puts food on his table for his family just over a product flaw' I am assuming that was supposed to be 'you want to fire this guy (steve) over a product flaw'.

The BILLIONAIRE doesn't need Apple's money to put food on his table you fool.

This isn't his first mistake, and wont be his last.

Remind me to disbar you from being on the jury at my trial. You cannot possibly hold that this lunatic was justified in his actions.

Not any more than I can hold that her own stupidity led to this as well.

Like I said previously, putting yourself in harm's way should not in any way absolve you from blame for what happens. When you use yourself as a human shield, you're going to get hurt - why should it be the other guy's fault?

I get a kick out of reading these types of forums. The "my import is so much better than your domestic" types are really just a bunch of poseurs. Several years ago I owned a bar and I had a standing bet that no one could pick their brand out of a six glass line up. I had to pay a guy once, but I think he got a lucky guess, 1 out of 6, the odds are that someone will guess correctly. To me, beer is beer. Golf and hanging out at the lake are about the only time I drink beer anyway. My drink of choice is whiskey, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Sippin whiskey neat to be specific. Anyone who mixes good whiskey with ANYTHING should be put to death on the spot. Mix with blends, not the good stuff. And for those of you who don't know, Jack Daniel's IS NOT BOURBON. Never has been, never will be. So all you folks quit calling it bourbon.

I think, at least right now, carbon fibre would be prohibitively expensive.

Why? Have you ever bought any? The fabric is about $30 per yard. YOu have to cut it and stack it and the epoxy is about $100 per gallon. You can build simple carbon/epoxy parts using simple hand tools but the process is very, very labor intensive. It takes most of an afternoon to make one part. The advances are in automation. Once you can automat and get the labor costs down the material is not expensive because you use so little of it.

IMO Apple's biggest mistake (as far as stopping Android) was coming to Verizon one year too late.

Why do people assume that this is a zero sum game? Apple doesn't have to "stop" android and probably doesn't care if the market is saturated with low end android phones. One is a generic platform customized by a bunch of hardware makers with varying quality and no defined set of specs. iOS is a vertically integrated platform from a single vendor.

Any low cost generic mobile operating system was always going to show up to cover the needs of carriers desperate to get subscribers to spend a lot of money in 'data 'plans since iPhones proved people could be convinced that searching the web from a phone is a necessity and voice minutes are now too plentiful and devalued.

The likely scenario is that Apple, HP, Microsoft/Nokia and RIM will split the market with the generic android handsets, which are iPhone clones. At least the other big vendors have a different interface and user experience to offer something new to the consumer.

So I am able to track any person, regardless of whether or not the nike + sensor is on them, if I am within 60 feet. I mean c'mon. If I had to stay within 60 of em the whole time, it would just be easier to drop the laptop and reciever I'm carrying around and just walkand use my eyes.

    What a load of FUD
